LSU Eunices Bourgeios, Kirksey selected in MLB Draft

EUNICE – The Louisiana State University Eunice baseball team had two players selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday.
Freshman pitcher Joey Bourgeios was picked in the 39nd round by the Atlanta Braves, while Zach Kirksey, a freshman infielder, was a 41st round selection by the Toronto Blue Jays.
Bourgeios, a Lutcher high school standout, finished with a 5.90 ERA and had a record of 12-2 in 15 appearances this season. He recorded 98 strikeouts in 2009.
Kirksey, a West Monroe High School graduate, finished 2009 with a .370 batting average and led the Bengals with 10 home runs. He finished with 66 RBIs.
Both players were instrumental with helping LSU Eunice return to the NJCAA Division II World Series.
